FAQ

What is VRLA?

Experience the next generation of immersive and transformative technology at VRLA 2018! The VRLA Expo hosts a thriving community of developers, entrepreneurs, enthusiasts and more, all excited and curious about this modern renaissance of virtual reality, augmented reality and immersive technology. This year’s theme, ‘A New Reality,’ represents an expansion of the expo’s scope beyond VR and AR to explore new ways emergent technology improves our lives both in and out of the headset. New verticals include AI, internet of things, robotics, blockchain, 3D printing, alternative energy, cryptocurrency, biotech, and more. With 12000+ attendees, hundreds of tech demos, art installations, educational sessions, and product launches, attendees and exhibitors will experience a convergence of the most innovative technologies shaping our world. VRLA provides a platform for you to become embedded in this ecosystem of the future.

When is VRLA?

Our keynotes start at 10am, with the expo floor opening around 12pm and closing at 7pm both days. Make sure to arrive early to get good seats at the keynote!

Where is VRLA held?

VRLA Expo 2018 will be held May 4-5 in South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center. (1201 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA 90015)

Who is behind VRLA?

VRLA Expo is produced by New Realities Inc. an organization that produces VRLA Expo, VRLA School workshops, and The Proto Awards – the first-ever award show for VR content. Meet the VRLA team here.

Who attends VRLA?

People come to VRLA from all over the world to see the latest advancements in VR, AR, and everything related to immersive technology. Past attendees to VRLA include entrepreneurs, software developers, hardware manufacturers, producers, directors, ad agencies, venture capitalists, integrators, reps from all the major motion picture studios, VFX houses, theme parks, and theater chains.

Who exhibits at VRLA?

From brand new startups to corporate mainstays, all types of companies are represented at VRLA. Developers, content creators and entertainment industry entities make up the majority of exhibitors, but all aspects of VR/AR technology are represented—including HMDs, mocap/tracking systems, 3D/VFX/rendering tools, game engines, audio tools, 360 video hardware and software, camera technology, location-based entertainment technology, advertising, data, science, education, medical. You get the idea! 🙂

What is the Pro Pass?

VRLA is a two-day event. Friday May 4th and Saturday May 5th. Friday is Pro Day and it’s geared toward industry professionals. Friday is the day that companies send their employees to do business. Tickets are more expensive because there are fewer of them.

Can I buy just a Friday Pass?

No. We do not offer any Friday only passes, only the two day Pro Pass for Friday & Saturday.

How else do the two days differ?

Pro Pass allows for access on both Friday and Saturday. Panels and presentations are more business and developer focused on Friday. While both days are open to the public, generally speaking, Saturday is consumer facing.

Is this show primarily B2B or B2C?

Although we have many more Saturday attendees than Friday, we would say both days (B2B & B2C) are of equal importance to our exhibitors.

How do I qualify for a Student Pass?

Student passes are eligible for any “student” who is currently enrolled in school. Students must present a valid proof of identification.

I’m a member of the press and wish to attend VRLA 2018. How do I register?

Please go to the Press tab in our navigation bar and submit an application.

When will the schedule and sessions be announced?

The Schedule will be fully announced online by March 2018. Visit the Schedule page of this website for the details on sessions and speakers across our theatres.

How does VRLA choose their sessions for 2018 programming?

VRLA curates its programming to cover emergent and current technologies across the spectrum of the industry. Including topics in: AR, VR, XR for business, gaming and entertainment, to machine learning, artificial intelligence and beyond. We also have diversity mandates seeking overall balance in our programming–in terms of gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, nationality, race, abilities, and religious beliefs. VRLA believes that diversity within our expo helps us to build a more powerful and inclusive community.
